This is such rubbish. Markit owns the IP of the CDX indices, and administers them in the sense of collecting prices and running the process that decides membership, but to state that this means Markit controls trillions of dollars of assets is laughable, a bit like saying the FT owns the entire UK stock market because it invented the FTSE.

Oh, and just to correct a couple more factual errors: the business was never run off spreadsheets, even in 2001, and you are off by an order of magnitude on the value of Uggla's stock.

Fracking last year caused 2 tiny earthquakes near Blackpool. The locals were up in arms. The huge pollution caused by the intial fracking process makes it a non-starter in the UK as our population woould rather pay eye gouging petrol and gas prices than hurt the environment.

I live in Italy where the tax debate has a distinctly different tone: here tax avoiders are not people who take advantage of the laws in an optimal way, they are people who lie about what they're earning and don't get checked by the authorities. People like doctors, dentists, lawyers even notaries whose function is to represent the state and reap huge monopoly profits doing it.

Should they be celebrated as well according to you? Maybe they should, after all they're just exposing the weaknesses of the system.
